GINA X PERFORMANCE
and her "No G.D.M." tribute
to Quentin Crisp in 1979!

One of the earliest proponents of chic, detached electro-pop, Gina X Performance (born Gina Kikoine) released a number of records throughout the late seventies and early eighties.

Her song, "No GDM,” is a tribute to Quentin Crisp, and is from the 1979 album "Nice Mover." The "No Great Dark Man” refers to Quentin Crisp's remark about there not being a "great dark man."

Gina X Performance were a striking German electro-cabaret-disco troupe with a nice line in harsh synth-core masterpieces. Zeus B. Held was the main man, later going on to produce recordings with Dead Or Alive and Transmission Vamp. Read the lyrics below, written by Zeus B. Held and Gina Kikoine.

NO G.D.M.

Wanna be a great dark man,
Nothing but a lesbian.
You are perfect, you are sheer,
If you are a red-haired queer.
That's life, one dies.
C'est la vie, ma cherie,
But it really doesn't matter.

No G.D.M.
No great dark man
No G.D.M.
No great dark man

There won't be a great dark man,
If I am a red-haired queer.
You are perfect, you are sheer,
If you are a red-haired queer.
C'est la vie, have a sniff.
C'est la vie, ma cherie,
But it really doesn't matter.

No teeth between pink lips,
Eyeline shadow with a crazy look,
The jewel behind my lobe of ear,
Rouge on my face hides my beard,
Long violet fingernails,
I adore those magic tales.
I don't mind, I don't mind.

No G.D.M.
No great dark man
No G.D.M.
No great dark man

Wanna be a great dark man,
Being but a lesbian.
You are perfect, you are sheer,
If you are a red-haired queer.

That's life, one dies.
C'est la vie, ma cherie.
C'est la vie, have a sniff.
That’s life, one dies.
C'est la vie, ma cherie.
C'est la vie, have a sniff.
That’s life, one dies.

C'est la vie, ma cherie.
C'est la vie, have a sniff.
That’s life, one dies.
C'est la vie, ma cherie,
C'est la vie, have a sniff
That's life, one dies.
C'est la vie, ma cherie.
